Project description

Synergy is CSIRO’s newest research and workplace centre on Canberra’s Black Mountain research precinct. It creates a “place” of Australian scientific research in a building that is designed to mark its “physical place”. Architecturally it derives it’s expression on the one hand from the surrounding Australian landscape and on the other from the highly sustainable initiative of naturally ventilating the workplace. Consequently the composition of the abstracted bark, leaves and shadows of the ephemeral sunscreen coexist with the geometric research facility articulated in Australian red oxide oversized planks; with the emblematic black thermal chimneys marking CSIRO as a proud Australian international scientific community. - BVN and Australian Institute of Architects.
