The AC Hotel New York NoMad (part of the Marriott group) will open the doors in fall 2020: 26 floors, 168 room, total cost of 65 million dollars. AC Hotel New York NoMad, at 6th Avenue, will not be just another hotel in the Big Apple... with a height of 96 meters it is the highest modular hotel in the world. A unique project to which the Etex group can also contribute.
During the construction of AC Hotel New York NoMad, the hotel rooms are developed completely prefabricated and then brought to the right place with a crane. Each steel module contains a fully equipped room, pre-painted and equipped with a bed, floors and even a toilet. The rooms are built in Poland and then transported to New York by cargo ship. Then it goes with trucks across the Brooklyn Bridge to the yard. The roof of the hotel and the rooftop bar are also modular. The restaurant and lobby are built in a traditional way.
Architectural firm Danny Forster & Architecture, together with Marriott, developed the innovative modular concept: “This hotel uses every asset of off-site construction, but does so in ways that exceed expectations,” says Danny Forster in Forbes. “We wanted to demonstrate that modular construction offers many more possibilities than simply increasing the efficiency of the construction process. We are building an elegant and iconic tower. And that at the rate of one full floor per day. ” In a press release, Marriott states that the AC Hotel New York NoMad marks a turning point for the industry's belief in prefab. Marriott itself started studying modular construction techniques in 2014. The conclusion was that modular construction not only shortens the construction time, but also reduces waste and noise polution. In addition, the end product is of better quality because of the precision work that is shown in the construction of each room. Eric Jacobs, Marriott International's Chief Development Officer, says the new hotel will become a game changer that will grow interest in modular construction. The Etex group itself also made a substantial contribution to this prestigious project. For example, EQUITONE [linea] LT20 panels are used for the facade cladding.
